This is one of those posts that some people will love and others may stop following the 5and2Guy. I’m willing to take that risk because of my faith. Yes, “faith.” Faith is something that we all need. I’m not saying you have to have the same faith I have, but if you want to be happy, you need some sort of faith. Without faith, you’ll eventually feel alone.
Check out this popular poem that always puts a lump in my throat. Not because it’s sad, but because we all have those times where we may feel alone and life starts to win…
Footprints
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”
What Do You Have?
When you feel like you’re walking on that beach alone, what do you have? Where do you turn? Do you feel alone, or do you have a faith that tells you that you’re never alone? Without a strong faith, it can feel like it’s you against the world. We all tend to have times where we feel alone. Times where we believe no one would understand what we’re feeling. Perhaps even a time when we just want to give up. But faith can lift you up. When you believe in something bigger than yourself, it’s never just you against the world. You have someone, something, on your side. This faith will not only lift you up, but will also help you live a happier life. It’s difficult to be truly happy without some sort of faith in something bigger than yourself.
The Takeaway
I’m not saying that you have to believe in the Lord as I do, but you do need to believe in something. When you have a strong faith, it becomes part of your character. It’s there to guide you to do the right things, be a positive person, and lift you up when you’re feeling down. It doesn’t prevent the sad times, but it does help hold you up during them. Without faith, the tough times can be overwhelming. With faith, the tough times are manageable and the good times are even better. Your life can be full of joy and happiness if you have a strong faith. Ask yourself today, when your times are tough, what carries you across the beach?
