Hey guys and gals. Welcome to Fitness Friday!!! Every Friday, me, the 5and2Guy, will be sharing with you tidbits of information and experiences around health and fitness. No, I am NOT a Fitness Coach, and I am NO Arnold Schwarzenegger, but I do have a whole bunch of experience in this area. For the past 22 years, I have been pretty serious about exercising and what I eat. Am I a fitness model who is waiting for a call to the big show? NO WAY…nor would I want to be. I am just a guy who decided I wanted to feel healthy, look fit, and establish a food and workout schedule that I could easily maintain and enjoy.
I believe I have found the secret. I know, that is what they all say. Well, let me say this. I have found what works for me and I want to share that with you. On Fitness Fridays, I will share with you different diets I have tried, exercise routines, successes, and failures. I will also share with you how I lost 10 lbs eating three to four Krispy Kreme chocolate glazed donuts every night for six weeks. Yeah…that happened!!! To give you some insight into some themes behind what we will talk about:
“Success: A few simple disciplines repeated every day.”—Jim Rohn
“Failure: A few errors in judgement repeated every day.”—Jim Rohn
“I exercise three to five times a week to keep my body strong.”—5and2Guy
Each of those quotes share with you some insights as to what we will be focusing on in Fitness Friday. I will share with you exercise tips, food tips, ways to fight the cravings, etc…. All in the name of helping you become healthier and happier.
I also understand that some times it can be expensive to eat healthy foods or have a gym membership. I hear you and I agree, but have you checked out the cost of not being healthy? I know I pay a BOAT LOAD of money each month for my health benefits, and most of you probably do too. Maybe giving this health thing a try is not a bad idea. And it doesn’t have to be expensive if you plan properly. When I first started exercising 22 years ago, I had one of those gym memberships. I had to wake up early, drive out in the cold to the gym and come back. It took a big part of my day, and a lot of my willpower, but I made it easier.
In order to make exercising easier and less of an obstacle, I saved up a little bit of money and invested in some dumbbells and cheap exercise equipment. This was the start of my home gym. Weights have always been about a dollar a pound, so I bought three sets of dumbbells: 15 lbs, 20 lbs, and 25 lbs. I also bought a really cheap bench. That is how it started. Over the years I kept buying more dumbbells here and there in addition to a barbell and some weights. I also started to save for one “big” piece of equipment a year. By “big,” I mean a little more expensive. Now, 22 years later I have a full gym and have been exercising out of home since I bought those first set of dumbbells…which I still have and use.
If I can do it, so can you. All it takes is a little bit of discipline, removal of some obstacles and an understanding of those three quotes above. Don’t worry…we will talk more about them in later posts. You see…we will talk about exercise and food, but we will also talk about the mindset necessary to persevere and be successful. I’m excited!!! And I hope you are too.
